Flooding forces prep schedule changes
· Yahoo Sports
The high school sports calendar is being severely disrupted this weekend by weather. Next weekend’s schedule will feel the ripple effects.
No fewer than six prep football games, all of them involving schools in the Four Corners area, have been pushed all the way back to Monday afternoon or evening.
Visit asg-reflektory.pl for more information.
The list of postponed games:
*
Sandia at Farmington
*
Rio Grande at Bloomfield
*
Piedra Vista at Highland
*
Aztec at Robertson
*
Cuba at Newcomb
*
Pojoaque Valley at Kirtland Central
Travel restrictions based on inclement weather – San Juan County is experiencing severe flooding – is at the root of the changes.
Piedra Vista-Highland will be played at 6 p.m. Monday at Milne Stadium. Sandia’s road game at Farmington will kick off at Hutchison Stadium at 4 p.m. Monday.
Because of the multiple delays in Week 10, a handful of football games in Week 11 have also required a change in date.
Sandia-La Cueva was to be played Friday, Oct. 30; it will now be played at 11 a.m. on Halloween day at Wilson Stadium, since Sandia (or any school) cannot play a football game both Monday and Friday in the same week.
Valley’s trip to Bloomfield in Week 11 has been moved to 1 p.m. Saturday the 31st. Cibola’s visit to Piedra Vista is also going from Friday the 30th to 1 p.m. on Halloween.
Highland will play a road game at Los Lunas in Week 11 at 1 p.m. Saturday, the 31st, instead of Friday night.
Farmington had a road game scheduled at Atrisco Heritage next Thursday, but that contest has been changed to 2 p.m. Saturday at Milne.
Meanwhile, the end of the prep soccer regular season was to be Saturday. The same severe weather issues that are plaguing the Four Corners in football is causing a similar issue for soccer, and a handful of schools will now play their final games on Monday rather than Friday or Saturday.
Thus, the state seeding and selection show for state soccer, which was scheduled for Sunday, has been pushed back to Monday evening.
First-round state soccer games will be delayed by a day, to be played next Wednesday and Thursday.
