During the WNBA Finals, the anthem controversy reared its head once again, with players going off the court pregame and writing it off as simple team protocol.
But the whole debate exploded to another level when LeBron James was caught on camera casually practicing his golf swing while the anthem was playing.
The viral clip set off instant online fury, and Donald Trump didn’t hesitate to weigh in. Trump ripped into LeBron on Truth Social, branding him a “TOTAL DISGRACE” and demanding he apologise to American veterans for fooling around instead of standing at attention.
Donald Trump gives shout out to Caitlin Clark in Iowa
Speaking at an Iowa rally, Donald Trump took direct aim at the WNBA’s national anthem walkouts. He warned that players skipping the anthem will end up torpedoing their own sport, right as Caitlin Clark‘s arrival brought unprecedented crowds and attention.
He said: “Hey, by the way, what’s going on with the women’s NBA? What’s that all about? You know, they’ll destroy themselves before they get started because they just started to do good. And you had a player here who was very good, who was very helpful for that [Caitlin Clark in Iowa].
“No, it’s a big deal going on. They leave the court when the national anthem is played. What’s that all about? You know, the NFL did that for a while and they stopped because people stopped watching the games. So I think you should do the same thing with women’s basketball unless they get there.”
Donald Trump has always been quick to heap praise on Caitlin Clark, constantly hyping up her game.
However, dropping her name at an Iowa rally was a genius play, using the state’s biggest hero to whip up the local crowd and lock in key voters before the midterms.
