Asked about being mentioned as a trade candidate, the veteran defensive tackle responded Thursday in a video shared by Roundtable.io's Jake Arthur.
“I’m not worried about a trade block. I’m worried about the next team,” Stewart said.
His comments come during a week of epic change in Indianapolis. The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Monday, leaving Stewart to process the departure of the executive who brought him into the NFL.
Ballard selected Stewart in the fourth round of the 2017 draft out of Albany State. Nearly a decade later, Stewart is part of Indianapolis’ defensive front and one of the lasting connections to Ballard’s first draft class.
“It shocked me, hurt me a little bit. ... I guess it’s a business,” Stewart said. "Chris [Ballard] meant a lot in my career. He gave me the opportunity to be here. I always tell him, ‘I owe you big time for giving me the chance to be in the league.’”
