Maddison and Kulusevski bring back the feel-good factor to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are finally off and running as James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski gave the club’s fans something to feel good about.

Maddison set Spurs on their way to a first league victory of the season on his first start in the competition for 18 months with a brilliant first–half goal. And Kulusevski made his comeback from long-term injury as a late substitute.

Visit newssport.cv for more information.

It was also a confidence-boosting night for Omar Marmoush, who netted his first Tottenham goal since moving from Manchester City. Substitute Ben Davies chipped in at the end.

Roberto De Zerbi, the Tottenham head coach, did not enjoy a perfect evening, however, as Marmoush, Andy Robertson and Tosin Adarabioyo were forced off with injuries.

Jack Rudoni scored Coventry’s goal and Frank Lampard will take positives from this performance, even though it ended in defeat.

It was Maddison’s first league start since April 27, 2025 and he marked it with his first top-flight goal since February of the same year.

Against the club he started his career at, Maddison silenced the scattered boos from the away supporters with a swing of his right boot in the 15th minute.

Mohammed Kudus got to the ball ahead of Jay Dasilva and, after advancing forwards, laid it off to Maddison, who produced the perfect finish from 20 yards.

Maddison initially seemed reluctant to celebrate against his old club, but eventually kissed the Spurs badge and threw his trademark imaginary dart.

It was the first time Spurs had taken the lead in the league this season and the goal lifted the home crowd, many of whom shouted “shoot” every time Maddison got the ball within striking distance of the Coventry goal.

Maddison was one of five changes De Zerbi made from the draw at Manchester United, which also included a defensive reshuffle as he switched to a back three.

There were some uncertain moments in the opening stages for the new-look Spurs defence of Jan Paul van Hecke, Adarabioyo and Micky van de Ven.

A long kick-off from Coventry resulted in goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky having to get down to a Brandon Thomas-Asante cross. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto caused two moments of danger, with a cross that Kinsky had to get to ahead of Sidiki Cherif and a shot that was deflected behind by Van Hecke.

Adarabioyo looked to have been drafted in for his aerial ability against Coventry’s physically imposing forwards and the former Chelsea man got his head to a number of high balls.

Maddison was not the Tottenham comeback story of the night, as Kulusevski was back in the match-day squad for the first time after 526 days out.

Kulusevksi’s last appearance for Spurs had come when the club had a different chairman, coach and captain, although the sight of Maddison pulling the strings would have been familiar.

When he appeared to warm up for the first time in the 36th minute, Kulusevski was given a standing ovation by all four sides of the Tottenham stadium.

Despite his side leading, De Zerbi did not look delighted on the home bench and there was a warning for his team shortly before half-time.

Thomas-Asante got the wrong side of Van Hecke and looked to only have Kinsky to beat, but Van de Ven intervened from the other side to make a brilliant tackle and stop the Coventry forward from shooting.

The warning was not heeded, as Coventry drew level in the 50th minute with Van Hecke, one of Tottenham’s summer signings, at fault for losing possession.

Van Hecke was caught out trying to run forwards with the ball and Rudoni broke down the left, swapping passes with Caleb Yirenkyi. Rudoni smashed his first shot against Thomas-Asante, before beating Kinsky with his second effort. The Spurs goalkeeper should really have done better.

Tottenham responded well to the setback, with Sandro Tonali sending a couple of shots over the crossbar, before Marmoush fired his team back into the lead with his first goal since joining from Manchester City.

Marmoush held off an attempted challenge from Milan van Ewijk, before smashing a shot past Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and into the net. There was a brief VAR check as Marmoush’s arm had caught Van Ewijk, but the goal was cleared.

Lampard responded by freshening up his attack with the introduction of Taiwo Awoniyi and the striker almost got his toe to a dangerous low ball into the penalty area.

De Zerbi was forced into two of his three changes with about 20 minutes remaining, as Robertson and Adarabioyo were forced off with injuries. Ben Davies and Mateus Fernandes replaced them, with Conor Gallagher taking over from Maddison.

The changes meant that Spurs reverted to a conventional back four, with Archie Gray moving back to right-back and Coventry pushed to try to make it a nervous finish for the home side.

Tottenham’s late introduction of Kulusevski prompted one of the loudest cheers of the night and Davies made sure of the three points with a goal in time added on for stoppages.

Thanks for reading tonight. That is it for the evening’s coverage, as Spurs finally get their win.

Lampard says ‘3-1 feels nasty’

Frank Lampard told the BBC that he felt the scoreline was not an entirely fair representation of the game.

“Very pleased with the performance,” he began. “We were in the game to say the least. Two outstanding goals for them, the second was questionable because the arm up in the face but quality finish.

“I am proud of the performance. 3-1 feels nasty at the end because of the last goal. We created some good moments. We wanted to start well as they start well in every game they have played here but haven’t got what they deserved.

“The feeling and flow of the game we were brave and getting people up on their top line. Individuals were showing their quality with Rudoni and Thomas-Asante - eight of the boys played in the Championship last year and now they have shown they have grown.

“I don’t like the fixture list game, they are all hard. Are we happy? We will always want more, we feel there’s a couple more points we felt we could have had.”

10:25pm

Coventry face Fulham next

Coventry host Fulham this coming Saturday.

A win for Frank Lampard might help them pull away from the drop zone, which would be the morale boost they need after this setback tonight.

10:22pm

‘Those moments make it all worth it’

James Maddison has been speaking after the match.

Asked if he had harboured hopes of such an impact on his rare start, he told Sky Sports: “I hoped. I spoke to the gaffer this weekend about it, feeling like it was the right moment for me to go back into the starting eleven after a bit of a stop-start start to the season.

“I just wanted to play well and show my abilities, show what the team has missed the last 18 months.

“The gaffer asked me to play and wanted to enjoy watching from the side. Hopefully I did that, and a goal is always nice.”

Commenting on his goal and his comeback, he added: “They’re the ones which are just a bit blurry. They’re the ones you dream of. It’s the light at the end of the tunnel.

“I was proud of Dejan Kulusevski. Him coming back, I knew exactly that feeling he had stepping back out on the pitch after that amount of time out. Those moments make it all worth it.”

10:15pm

London derby next for Spurs

Tottenham have it all to do in their next match.

The most important thing is to maintain momentum, and their chance to do that comes with a London derby away to Chelsea.

Xabi Alonso’s men were 2-0 winners against Everton on Saturday, and were dangerous in attack.

While they improved here tonight, they will not be favourites at Stamford Bridge.

10:09pm

Maddison’s long-range talent

Kevin De Bruyne and James Ward-Prowse are now two behind James Maddison’s record for long-range goals since his debut in the Premier League eight years ago.

10:07pm

Coventry hover over the bottom three

Coventry drop down to 17th as Spurs nudge them out the way.

They are now a point clear of the bottom three, with Fulham and Nottingham Forest on five points, and Sunderland bottom with four.

10:02pm

Spurs out of the bottom three

Those three points do not just give Tottenham their first win of the season.

While that is psychologically huge, just as important might be that Spurs are out of the relegation zone.

Last season they only just beat the drop, and the year before they were 17th despite winning the Europa League.

A few more wins and they might finally banish the notion that they are a crisis club. A lot to do to make that happen, though, because Coventry had plenty of chances.

09:58pm

Full time: Tottenham 3 Coventry 1

At long last, Tottenham have a win.

They have so much to be pleased with tonight. Kulusevski back, Maddison starting and scoring, and most importantly for the club: three points.

Coventry impressed, and they could well stay up if they find a ruthless streak, but they were well beaten in the end.

Now, Spurs have to make it count.

09:56pmKey moments

GOAL! 90+6 mins: Tottenham 3 Coventry 1 - Davies scores!

A teasing cross from Gallagher drifts out of the box but Spurs retain control on the left wing.

Tel dinks the ball inside, there’s a rough attempt at a clearance from Coventry but Spurs work it back to Davies, and he flicks in a clever, low shot into the bottom corner with the outside of his right foot.

09:54pm

90+4 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Pinnock wins a corner on the left. Hamer’s cross is cleared and Kulusevski again tries to counter down the right, with no assistance.

09:53pm

90+3 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Coventry line up another long through, it seems, but it’s taken short and Spurs stay compact as they await the next cross.

09:50pm

90+1 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

We have eight minutes of added time indicated.

09:50pm

90 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Davies commits a foul on the left wing and Hamer lines up a free from deep, but Spurs clear and Kulusevski sprints down the right into space. He sends in a cross that is overhit, with no real options for him to target anyway.

09:46pmKey moments

87 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Kulusevski is going to come on as a late substitute, 526 days after his knee injury.

He replays Marmoush, who took a knock. If he and Maddison are back and fit, and reliable, it’s a huge boost.

09:44pm

85 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Gundoni moves away from Davies after a neat tackle, but Fernandes rallies to boot the ball away from him. There are probably about 10 minutes left and Spurs are looking frayed but determined.

09:43pm

83 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Kudus is back helping defend as the players realise just how close they are to a vital milestone for the season.

09:41pm

80 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Kudus cuts onto his left foot on the corner of the box, and whips a powerful shot a good few yards wide of the far corner. Spurs’ supporters look nervous on the sidelines, as does De Zerbi in the technical area.

09:39pm

79 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

More changes for Coventry. Mason-Clark and Hamer on for Thomas-Asante and Sakamoto.

Chris Jones, part of the Coventry coaching set up, is booked for dissent.

09:36pm

76 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Marmoush is pulled down on the left wing and he pumps both his fists. It offers some rest and consolidation for Spurs, but there are more than 15 minutes to come. Spurs should not be feeling like their backs are against the wall, but evidently they do.

09:33pm

73 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Gray has gone to right-back now with Tosin off. Gray’s versatility might have arrested his progress during his breakthrough season but is now vital again.

09:30pm

71 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Fernandes is set to come on too, with Tosin still down and getting treatment.

09:29pm

69 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Spurs veteran Davies is on for Robertson. Gallagher is taken off for Maddison, applauding as he leaves.

09:28pm

68 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Sakamoto’s cross is cleared, but Spurs are betraying their nerves as they are already defending desperately.

Robertson looks to have picked up an injury, which is a worrying problem exacerbated by Tosin also going down.

09:25pm

66 mins: Tottenham 2 Coventry 1

Rudoni’s through-ball into Awoniyi is just overhit, with the defence failing to track the forward.

09:24pm

64 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 1

Rudoni is booked after a late lunge on Tonali to stop his attack from deep.

09:20pm

59 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 1

Awoniyi and Onyeka on for Yirenkyi and Cherif as Lampard makes changes.

09:18pmKey moments

58 mins: GOAL! Tottenham 2 Coventry 1 - Marmoush scores!

His first goal for the club.

As Marmoush turns he catches his marker Van Ewijk in the face, accidentally, and after spinning towards goal, he lashes his effort past Rushmore.

Spurs are back in front through a second excellent strike.

09:15pm

55 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 1

Spurs speed up their play in response, and Tonali rushes to move the ball away from a defender before his left-footed shot goes a couple of yards wide of the top-left corner.

09:13pm

52 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 1

Tonali responds to a loose ball on the edge of the box with a really solid connection, but it whistles high and clear of goal. A good chance goes begging.

09:09pmKey moments

50 mins: GOAL! Tottenham 1 Coventry 1 - Rudoni scores!

Coventry are level!

Rudoni picks up the ball on the left and sends in a cross for Yirenkyi, which bounces off his chest and back to Rudoni.

He fires in at goal, and Kinsky flaps at it, the ball going through him and into the net. A terrible start for the home side.

09:08pm

48 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

The early exchanges in the second half show few changes in approach. Neither side has made any changes.

09:06pm

46 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

The match restarts.

09:02pm

Coventry fail to take advantage

There have been a couple of moments of defensive confusion for Spurs, as their usual weaknesses keep showing themselves.

If Coventry are to get back into the game, they need to take advantage the next time they get a chance, as Spurs look dangerous enough to add at least one more.

08:56pm

Tonali calls Maddison ‘one of the best players of this team’

This match’s intrusive half-time interview is with Sandro Tonali.

Asked about Maddison’s impact today, he said: “We need his quality, we need James in the middle of the pitch. One of the best players in this team, and we have to play with him more times, more balls into his feet.”

08:49pm

45 +3 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Relief for Tottenham after that half, but they must be concerned that they have not pressed their apparent superiority. Coventry are still in this, and have created chances too.

08:47pm

45 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Dasilva is booked for a foul on Kudus on the halfway line to stop a counter. We are now into the first of three minutes of added time, and Coventry have a few yellows now, which might catch up with them if Kudus continues to stretch the visitors.

08:46pm

44 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Asante strides into a gap left by Van de Ven’s poor positioning, but the Dutchman is across well to tidy up and concede a corner as he stared down on goal.

08:42pm

41 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Asante trips Maddison after he intercepts in midfield.

He has grown into his first start for more than a year.

08:40pm

39 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Both teams have been largely toothless except for the odd moment so far.

Gray tees up Maddison for a shot inside the box with his left, but his effort is blocked by Pinnock, and Marmoush then finds Solanke who fires over after doing well to make space.

08:38pm

36 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Cherif’s long-range shot is deflected for a corner on the right.

Just before that, Dejan Kulusevski is out to warm up, bringing a round of applause and cheers from the home fans.

08:35pm

34 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Grimes catches Maddison on the back of the ankle, and he goes down in pain but is fine to continue after a moment’s respite. Marmoush will take the free-kick, about 40 yards out.

08:32pm

31 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Solanke looks just offside as he reaches the ball on the left of the box, but he is not flagged, and he wins a corner with a deflection off a defender.

Marmoush’s corner is headed away, and Maddison’s cross, curling towards the back post, drifts wide.

08:30pm

29 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Coventry have come back into the game in the last few minutes, but their efforts are hampered by some wayward passing and control.

08:28pm

26 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Rushworth hoofs it long after the foul on Cherif, and Coventry look for a way through Spurs after they drop deep.

08:25pm

24 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Spurs have most of the ball now, and they are full of confidence if not competence.

Cherif is down for Coventry, clutching his shoulder.

08:24pm

22 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Solanke is booked for a cynical clipping of Asante on the halfway line. It’s a simple decision for the ref.

08:21pm

20 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Gray is fouled by Yirenkyi, acatching him on the heel far too late, and that gets him into the book.

08:20pm

19 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Robertson is released down the inside left and he crosses inside for Solanke to tap in, but he was clearly offside, and nobody is surprised to see it ruled out.

08:19pm

18 mins: Tottenham 1 Coventry 0

Most of the good work for Spurs has come from Kudus. He’s on hand again, stretching play before he is ruled offside. It’s the winger who was on hand to tee up Maddison for the opener, too.

08:15pmKey moments

14 mins: GOAL! Tottenham 1 Coventry 0 - Maddison scores!

What a comeback from Maddison.

Will he celebrate? Oh yes. 18 months without a start, and he whips a shot, Beckham-style, up and over Rushworth and towards the top corner.

08:13pm

12 mins: Tottenham 0 Coventry 0

Robertson reaches a high cross to the back post, but close to the touchline, he can’t do much with it, and the keeper claims.

08:12pm

11 mins: Tottenham 0 Coventry 0

Sakamoto plays a one-two into the box on the right, and Sakamoto blasts a shot that flies off Van Hecke’s head and away.

From the corner, Bobby Thomas heads a fraction wide, but is penalised for a shove beforehand on Gray. The two best chances of the half so far, both for the visitors.

08:09pm

7 mins: Tottenham 0 Coventry 0

Rudoni is tripped by Tonali on the left wing, and I’ve just noticed the mullet he is sporting. Dearie me.

Worse than his haircut is his cross from the free-kick, which is cleared easily enough at the near post.

08:06pm

5 mins: Tottenham 0 Coventry 0

Kudus’ cross is cleared, and Coventry sit back as they look to withstand this early Spurs pressure.

08:04pm

3 mins: Tottenham 0 Coventry 0

Maddison and Robertson combine on the left as Spurs probe for an opening.

08:02pm

Maddison’s Coventry conundrum

James Maddison was born in Coventry and started his career at the Midlands club. Tonight is his first Premier League start for Spurs since April 27, 2025. Will he celebrate if he scores?

08:02pm

1 min: Tottenham 0 Coventry 0

The match gets underway.

Spurs seem to have gone with a back three tonight.

08:00pm

Lampard back at ‘Three Point Lane’

Frank Lampard used to refer to Tottenham’s old White Hart Lane as “Three Point Lane” when he was a player at Chelsea. He also joked that Tottenham made DVDs of their victories against him. He will definitely get a bit of stick from the home fans tonight, even though he’s Coventry head coach these days.

‘I have big confidence in my players’ - De Zerbi on Marbella trip

Roberto De Zerbi took his players off to Spain for some warm weather in the international break, in Spain.

He did so to build the club’s team spirit up, which is probably vital after years of toil.

The players are coming out of the tunnel now.

07:52pmAnalysis

‘Out injured for 526 days’

Dejan Kulusevski is on the bench for Tottenham tonight. He’s been out injured for 526 days and the last time he played for Spurs, the club had a different chairman, coach and captain. It’s been a while...

07:46pm

Coventry chasing ninth place

Spurs have just three points, but a win would take him out of the drop zone. Depending on the scoreline, they could go as high as 15th.

Coventry, with six points, could go as high as ninth place, but they would have to absolutely smash Spurs here to get above Hull, who have a goal difference which is superior by seven.

07:41pm

Coventry arrive

Here are the away team arriving in North London. Kick-off is now about 20 minutes away.

07:39pm

Udogie out with knee problem

Spurs manager De Zerbi has explained defender Destiny Udogie’s absence tonight.

The Italian has said that he suffered a knee injury against Manchester United in the 1-1 draw last weekend, and does not feature tonight as a precaution.

He said before the match: “Destiny Udogie played 70 minutes (against Manchester United) and suffered a problem of (the) knee and we didn’t take a risk alongside the medical staff.”

07:32pm

Guehi elects not to take the knee

Marc Guéhi decided not to take the knee at the weekend for the Premier League’s anti-racism campaign.

He believes the gesture is no longer the best way to carry on its aims, and has decided to clap instead.

“Marc Guéhi has said that he claps instead of taking the knee and fears the gesture may have lost its original meaning,” Mike McGrath writes.

“The Manchester City centre-back did not take the knee at the weekend to mark the Premier League’s No Room For Racism initiative and said he has not done so for years.

“Issa Diop, who was playing for Ipswich Town against City, also stood, as did Everton’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Leeds’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Bournemouth team-mates Rayan and Tyler Adams. Some fans booed when players took the knee at Elland Road before Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

“Guéhi said he believes in the message of the campaign but that more could be done to tackle discrimination in football and wider society. His comments about what the knee signifies also echo those of his former Crystal Palace team-mate Wilfried Zaha who wanted to ‘stand tall’ and show his pride at being black.”

07:26pm

Carragher says Spurs ‘getting better and better’

The Telegraph’s Jamie Carragher has been moonlighting tonight for Sky Sports.

He notes that Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton also had poor xG, and struggled to finish, which suggests this problem might not be easily solved.

Carragher also sees some recent improvement, noting: “I think each game, they’ve been getting better and better, but they haven’t been getting results.”

07:21pm

Spurs’ xG problem

While these statistics are not entirely up to date anymore, they do show one of Spurs’ biggest problems.

The quality of the chances they are creating are well down the list. They need a little - well, a lot - more guile in attack if they are to get the better of Coventry tonight.

07:16pm

Lampard says Coventry ‘want to compete’

On Sky Sports before the match, Lampard has said that he is looking for a little more from his side, physically.

He praised his squad, but believes that there is more to be drawn from the players this season.

07:10pm

Spurs players arrive

The manbags and the millionaires. Here are the Spurs players arriving tonight.

07:08pm

‘You don’t have to be a horse to a jockey’

Before the match gets started, read Alan Tyers on Peter Schmeichel’s interviewing efforts.

He writes: “You don’t have to be a horse to be a jockey, as Thomas Tuchel explained to Jude Bellingham. But in the football media today, we have Derby winners doing the work of the honest carthorse.

“All-time goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel has been pursuing an ill-advised second career as a post-match interviewer and was in the news last week for an absolute howler with Lisandro Martínez after a Champions League game.

“It was the journalistic equivalent of coming out for a cross, flapping at it and conceding an own goal off his own bottom. If he actually were a reporter, Schmeichel’s next assignment would have been a match report from Accrington Stanley, at best.”

It’s fortunate that you don’t have to be a horse to be a jockey, indeed. Because I was a dreadful footballer, and yet here I am.

07:02pm

Fernandes and Senesi benched

It’s always slightly odd how results can make a line-up look pedestrian, even after a summer of heavy spending. Omar Marmoush and Sandro Tonali were two of last season’s better players, and yet even with James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus and Dominic Solanke, they have failed to spark into life.

If De Zerbi’s men finally spring into life, then doubtless the new players and some of the old will look intimidating once more. Until then, it is hard to see just where the improvement will come from.

06:56pmKey moments

Coventry line-up

Coventry XI: Rushworth, Van Ewijk, Thomas, Pinnock, Dasilva, Yirenkyi, Grimes, Rudoni, Sakamoto, Thomas-Asante, Cherif.

Subs: Bentley, Simms, Mason-Clark, Mfuni, Awoniyi, Onyeka, Kesler-Hayden, Torp, Hamer.

06:53pmKey moments

Spurs line-up

Tottenham XI: Kinsky, Robertson, Tosin, Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Gray, Tonali, Maddison, Marmoush, Kudus, Solanke.

Subs: Dubravka, Senesi, Gallagher, Tel, Fernandes, Kulusevski, Davies, Olusesi, Williams-Barnett.

06:46pm

Martinez aims for return ‘in a few weeks’

On Saturday, Emi Martinez was left with a fractured draw as Chelsea defeated Everton away, in a fairly impressive victory that was marred by his injury.

However, after some swift treatment, he is already aiming to get back in just a few weeks.

You can read about that here. We will have team news for tonight’s match very soon.

06:39pm

Lampard says Coventry will ‘worry about ourselves’

In his pre-match press conference before the weekend, Frank Lampard was not underestimating Roberto De Zerbi’s men, despite their poor start.

He said: “When I look at them play, they have a lot of quality with a very good coach. We worry about ourselves and the start we had on paper to where we’ve got to with these two wins makes us feel good, so it’s not the time for comparison.”

Lampard added: “As a promoted side, I’m sure they’ll have a feeling of confidence against us. That’s fine. We have to believe in ourselves and go there with our own confidence and play with the same purpose we did against Newcastle.”

06:34pm

Kulusevski returns

Initially, Dejan Kulusevski’s knee problem in May 2025 was thought to be a minor problem, but only now, more than a year later, is he back with the Tottenham team.

The Swede has a long way to go to get back to robust fitness, but imagine his relief to be back with the squad after more than 500 days out.

06:01pm

Winless Spurs welcome Coventry in search of three points

Welcome to Telegraph Sport’s live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur vs Coventry City.

Tottenham return to Monday Night Football under immense pressure, languishing at the bottom of the Premier League as the only top-flight side still searching for a first win of the campaign.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team secured a dramatic 1-1 draw at Manchester United before the international break through Dominic Solanke’s late equaliser following Rodrigo Bentancur’s dismissal. While Spurs have shown minor signs of progress - losing just once in four matches and finding the net in three consecutive games - wastefulness remains a glaring issue, with the side severely underperforming their expected goals tally.

De Zerbi faces significant selection headaches for tonight’s fixture. Bentancur serves a suspension, while key figures Pedro Porro, Savio, and Lucas Bergvall are all sidelined through injury. However, the squad received a welcome boost with Dejan Kulusevski returning to the matchday setup following a year-long absence.

Frank Lampard’s newly promoted Coventry City arrived in fine form. The club have won two consecutive fixtures, capped by a resounding 4-1 victory over Newcastle United, which lifted them into 14th place, though after the weekend’s matches they now sit 16th, just a point clear of the drop. Lampard must now decide whether to retain the four-man defence that dispatched Newcastle or revert to a wing-back system typically deployed on the road. Up front, striker Taiwo Awoniyi is available again after completing a ban and could displace Sidiki Cherif in the starting lineup.

While Tottenham boast a strong recent head-to-head record against Coventry - winning their last five encounters across all competitions - their dismal home record of just three wins in 22 matches at home leaves them vulnerable against a confident opposition looking to inflict further misery on the winless hosts.
