Moises Caicedo has returned with a vengeance after his injury that kept him out of action to start the season. He has slot in with ease to the eleven since his comeback with Jordan Henderson providing the perfect partner to unleash the best form of the Ecuadorian. Both are capable of covering distance, comfortable on the ball, and defensively capable; they’ve become the engine of a team that now looks far more controlled than it did early on.
Romeo Lavia was introduced late on to provide a technical certainty at 2-0 up. If there is one thing the Belgian can do it is pass the ball and keep his team on top, which helped to see out the game despite the Toffees having a resilient press.
Josh Acheampong over Wesley Fofana
With the available depth, big decisions have to be made about who starts and who sits, with each one having a cause and effect that changes how the team plays on the field. The manager got it perfect as he chose to start academy star Josh Acheampong over former Leicester man Wesley Fofana. The youngster plays a difficult role in the new system, moving between a right centre-back and right-back as needed, but he makes it look easy.
The Englishman timed his movements well going forward to provide supporting runs but balanced it with defensive work, playing out from the back with mostly accurate passes. He was a rock at the back, barely being beaten despite going up against a very game Jack Grealish

It is pretty well known that in 2025/26, Chelsea were one of the least energetic teams in the league, they were outrun by their opponents in essentially every Premier League outing under Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior, and Callum McFarlane. It was a big reason why they slid down to a mid-table finish and defensively leaked goals.
Alonso has turned things around and got his players bought in and running. Henderson covered the most distance of any player on the field today with Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and Josh Acheampong all covering over 11 km themselves with Pedro Neto at 10.9. The Toffees were energetic today, operating with a harsh counter-press that would have upended the Blues last year. Instead, they matched their opponent’s energy levels and managed to see out the fixture with a clean sheet and a win.
