Detroit Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

· Yahoo Sports

After a stellar performance in Detroit's 45-21 road win at the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It marks the fourth time in Gibbs' career that he's received the honor.

Gibbs registered 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in the win over the Cardinals. With his two touchdowns on Sunday, Gibbs now has 58 career touchdowns. That moved Gibbs past Lions legend and NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders for the most touchdowns by any NFL player before age 25.

Gibbs added five catches for 56 yards in the win over Arizona as well.

Additionally, Gibbs became the first player in Lions franchise history to produce 75+ scrimmage yards and a touchdown in each of the first five games of a season. Gibbs also became the sixth player in NFL history to total 740+ scrimmage yards and nine or more touchdowns in the first five games of an NFL season, joining legends like Jim Brown (1958, 1963), Eric Dickerson (1983), Emmitt Smith (1995), and Priest Holmes (2002).

Over five games, Gibbs now has 504 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, plus 243 receiving yards and two receiving scores. Gibbs joins Thurman Thomas (1991), Tiki Barber (2004), and Christian McCaffrey (2019) as the only players in NFL history to accumulate 500+ rushing yards and 240+ receiving yards through the first five games of a season.

With the Lions enjoying their bye week, Detroit can expect to have Gibbs well-rested and ready to set even more records when Detroit welcomes the Green Bay Packers to Ford Field for their Week 7 matchup on Sunday, Oct. 25.
