Reliever Abner Uribe recently stopped in at Impulse, 7965 S. Main St., a camera store in Oak Creek.
Impulse co-owner Travis Garski said he got a phone call out of nowhere from a public relations representative for Uribe. The caller said his client was looking for a Canon PowerShot G7X Mark III, a camera Garski said is nearly impossible to keep in stock.
Retail for the compact camera, which came out in 2019, is $879.99, but Garski said many third-party resellers inflate the price due to its popularity. When asked why it was popular, Garski said he didn’t know exactly, other than a lot of social media influence.
Uribe wanted one quickly, Garski said, guessing he wanted to use it to document this historic run for the Brewers.
“I’m assuming he wanted something better than his phone that he can carry in his pocket,” Garski said.
Luckily Garski was able to get a hold of one through his contacts, and it only took about a week from call to camera in hand for Uribe, who visited Impulse around 6 p.m. Oct. 9, two days after the Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 3-1 to win the National League Division series.
Garski said since the pitcher popped into the store, he’s been watching more baseball, often having a game on one of the wall-mounted televisions at Impulse.
“He’s really good,” Garski said of Uribe on the mound. “He’s got a lot of energy.”
When he was in the shop, however, Garski said the 26-year-old reliever was very quiet and reserved.
“Maybe he was just exhausted,” Garski said.
Brewers headed to the World Series for the first time in 44 years
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Oct. 15, propelling the team to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
Garski said he’s proud of the Brewers for getting to the Fall Classic and is excited to watch the games. He said Wisconsin pushes out some good players in all sports.
As a thank you, Garski said Uribe's representative is gifting the store four tickets for a Brewers game next year along with passes allowing them to go on the field before the game – and bring their cameras.
Impulse has an engraving machine and Garski said he's invited Uribe back to the store to get the camera engraved, maybe even with champion wording if the Brewers win the World Series.
