Green Bay Packers $77 million starter to miss 3rd consecutive game

· Yahoo Sports

The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are about an hour away from their first matchup of the 2026 NFL regular season. Last year, the Bears went 2-1 against the Packers, including a victory in the Wild Card Round that sent Green Bay home from the NFL Playoffs.

This first meeting is going to see both teams without several important players. The Bears will be without quarterback Caleb Williams, running back Kyle Monangai, and left tackle Ozzy Tapillo. Green Bay, of course, will be without Micah Parsons, who is still recovering from a torn ACL, and Edgerrin Cooper, who tore his Achilles last week. Jayden Reed, too, is out for the year with a neck injury.

In addition to the players mentioned above, Green Bay has declared the following four players as inactive against Chicago:

None of these names are all too surprising as they were on the Packers injury report all week. However, it is notable that Aaron Banks, their starting left guard, is missing his third consecutive game. He also missed the season opener, making Green Bay’s Week Two win over the New York Jets the only game he has played so far this year.

Banks is entering the second season of a four-year $77 million contract that he signed with the Packers ahead of 2025. He underperformed last year as he battled injuries early in the season. This time around, he is battling knee tendonitis that limited him in training camp and a toe injury that he suffered in Week Two.

Hopefully he is able to get right soon, but the fact of the matter is that, as of now, his contract looks like one of the worst of the Brian Gutekunst era.
