22 is too many

East Peoria has a dual purpose Friday night in its 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Washington.

The Raiders are at three wins on the season, and can clinch an IHSA playoff spot with a victory.

East Peoria (3-4, 1-4) is trying to join the postseason for the first time in 14 years. The Raiders have not been to the IHSA postseason since the 2012-13 season, when they were 7-3 under head coach Doug Martin.

And there's something else in this Week 8 game: East Peoria has not beaten Washington in 22 years. The Raiders last victory over Washington was in Week 4 of the 2003 season.

Pushing for the playoffs

Four is the magic number for football teams in the IHSA in 2026.

Under the state's new playoff system, four victories will earn a team a trip to the postseason.

Peoria-area teams with IHSA playoff spots already clinched heading into Week 8 are: Notre Dame, Morton, Dunlap, Metamora, Pekin, El Paso-Gridley, Macomb, Abingdon-Avon, Illini West, Stark County, Eureka, Annawan/Wethersfield and St. Bede.

East Peoria (3-3, 1-3) was still trying to join the postseason party for the first time in 14 years. The Raiders have not been to the IHSA postseason since the 2012-13 season, when they were 7-3 under head coach Doug Martin. They lost in Week 7 and will have to regroup.

East Peoria, Farmington, Elmwood/Brimfield and Tremont were all sitting on three wins and the brink of clinching a playoff spot as Week 8 kickoffs happened.
