‘Has Father Time Caught Up With You?’: Matthew Stafford Gets “Legitimate Question” From Analyst Amid Slow Start To 2026
· Yahoo Sports
Matthew Stafford’s mistake-heavy start to the 2026 season has raised serious alarms. He has six interceptions in four games, four of which came in his last two outings. The quarterback is rapidly approaching his total of eight from the entire previous season.

For a Rams squad considered a Super Bowl-caliber ‘super team,’ this is concerning. As Stafford sits right behind New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye for the most picks in the league, critics are questioning if the 38-year-old quarterback is showing his age.

Stafford missed targets early on in the games, particularly in the games against the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. However, he started playing much better near the end. The “First Things First” analyst Chris Broussard didn’t mince his words, saying, “Matthew Stafford has father time caught up with you. I think that’s a legitimate question at this point. At times you still look great, but that’s what happens; even old guys can look great at times. But you have six interceptions, second most, only to who? Wild Drake Maye. You have six interceptions in four games, including four in the last two games. You have to go out there and prove that you are still that guy, and it would be a look; you’re still probably a Hall of Famer.
“Is he certainly now everybody’s certainly a Hall of Famer Super Bowl we think he’s so probably, but this would be a heck of a year to fall off when everybody thinks you got a super team together and you’re supposed to win the Super Bowl so I want to see I still do believe in you”.
According to reports, Stafford has struggled and is holding back the Rams’ offense. The team ranks 19th in scoring with just 21.3 points per game, and their offensive efficiency sits right in the middle at 16th.
Nonetheless, the Super Bowl champion Stafford remains one of the best signal-callers in the league. Just look at Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles; he threw for 317 yards and pulled off his 40th career fourth-quarter comeback.
