The trophy is in honor of the first time Notre Dame and Stanford faced off in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day in 1925. The Irish won that game, 27-10.

Notre Dame is 24-14 all-time against Stanford, with a 21-13 mark since the trophy series began in 1989.

The Irish, who were the top-ranked team in the country in 1989, won 27-17 over the Cardinal in the first year of the trophy series.

Notre Dame has a three-game win streak against Stanford, including a 49-20 victory in their previous meeting last season.

The Irish’s longest win streak against the Cardinal was seven games in 2002-08. That stretch also had Notre Dame’s largest victory against Stanford in the series so far – a 57-7 result in the 2003 season.

Notre Dame will host Stanford on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
