“Grimsby GO will be a game changer for Niagara, bringing fast, reliable GO service closer to home, saving commuters valuable time and unlocking increased service along the Lakeshore West line,” Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria said in a release. “We’re building the transportation infrastructure Ontario needs to support growing communities, create good-paying jobs and build a stronger, more competitive economy.”

Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture builds large scale transit infrastructure projects throughout Ontario.

Features in the construction include a customer platform for train service with a heated shelter and canopy; a five-bay bus loop for customers to access GO Bus and Niagara Region Transit services; 220 parking spaces; bicycle parking and dedicated passenger pick-up and drop-off zones.

The expected completion time is the second half of 2027.

‘Fast, reliable transport’

“Families in Grimsby and across Niagara Region need fast, reliable transit that gets them where they need to go, and that’s exactly what our government is delivering,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West. “Grimsby GO will be a complete game changer for this community, cutting travel times, improving access to jobs and creating new opportunities for families and businesses as we deliver the largest transit expansion in North America.”

In anticipation of this project, the province began to prepare the site for construction back in July, including the removal of trees and vegetation. Work at the site includes site grading, excavation and platform foundation construction.

“Niagara’s businesses need better connections to workers, customers and markets across the Greater Golden Horseshoe,” Metrolinx President and CEO Michael Lindsay said. “The new Grimsby GO Station is an important piece of that infrastructure, and another step toward the more frequent and reliable GO service Niagara needs to support continued growth and investment.”

This project will add a new stop between Confederation Station in east Hamilton and the St. Catharines GO Station.
