Cowboys Move Up in NFL Power Rankings After Week 4 Win: Where Do They Rank Now?
· Yahoo Sports
The Dallas Cowboys have moved up in the latest NFL power rankings after an impressive Week 4 victory. The win provided a much-needed boost for a team that entered the season facing questions about its consistency and ability to compete with the NFC’s strongest teams.
Dallas improved to 3-1 after defeating the Houston Texans 34-30 in a back-and-forth matchup. The Cowboys showed resilience throughout the game, answering Houston’s biggest plays while making enough crucial stops and offensive plays to secure the victory in the closing stages.

The passing game remained a major strength, while the running attack provided enough balance to prevent defenses from focusing exclusively on the aerial attack. That combination gives Dallas a strong foundation as the season progresses.
The Cowboys’ defense still has areas that require attention, especially after allowing Houston to produce 30 points. However, the unit made several important plays when the game was on the line, and those timely moments ultimately helped Dallas escape with its third win of the season.

Week 4 result: Beat the Texans 34-30
Week 4 ranking: 15Four words to describe the first four weeks: Lots of work needed.
The Cowboys’ offense can score on anyone (at least 31 points in three of four games). Their defense is still a work in progress (at least 20 points allowed in all four games). Special teams has also had issues (two blocked field goals and poor end-of-game management against Baltimore). In other words, this start looks a lot like the up-and-down ride from 2025, when they went 7-9-1. Early in the season, winning in any manner is what matters most as long as there is improvement. With their next games versus winless Tampa Bay and struggling Green Bay, the Cowboys need to show some progress.
The latest power rankings reflect the Cowboys’ progress, with ESPN placing Dallas at No. 10 after the Week 4 victory. That position puts the team firmly among the league’s better teams, although the Cowboys still have plenty to prove before they can be considered a clear Super Bowl favorite. Their next stretch of games will provide more evidence of whether the early success is sustainable.
For now, Dallas has given itself a strong platform heading into the second month of the season. If the Cowboys can maintain their offensive production while tightening up defensively, their position in the power rankings could continue to rise as they pursue a deeper postseason run.
