Tuchel reveals conversations with Man City’s England players following club’s financial charges verdict

Thomas Tuchel says Manchester City’s guilty verdict for Premier League financial rule breaches has been a “big topic” inside the England camp but insists the club’s players remain fully focused on international duty.

The England boss confirmed he had spoken briefly with City players about the situation, though he was reluctant to offer his own assessment of the case.

“We had some time off and some time between the matches and it’s a big subject,” Tuchel said.

“But as you rightly say, everybody speaks about it. There is no other words needed to add to this and I’m glad to not be the voice.

“Nobody needs my half knowledge on the topic.”

Tuchel admitted the subject had inevitably been discussed among the squad, particularly by the Manchester City contingent.

“Of course the players talk about it, the City players talk about it, and we talked with them but only briefly,” he added.

Despite the ongoing situation surrounding their club, Tuchel says there have been no concerns over the players’ focus ahead of England’s next game.

“They are ready to go for tomorrow,” he said.

“That’s what they show on the pitch, what they show in camp, but of course it’s a big topic in camp.”

Manchester City were found guilty by an independent commission of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, but continue to deny any wrongdoing and have lodged a formal appeal against the verdict.
