Chicago White Sox infielder Chase Meidroth delivered a crushing blow to the Houston Astros on Wednesday, launching a three-run homer in the sixth inning of American League Wild Card Game 2 at Daikin Park.

The White Sox held a 4-3 lead into the sixth inning after the Astros chipped away with solo homers from Jeremy Pena, Cam Smith and Jose Altuve. Meidroth then turned on an 87 mph slider and drove it an estimated 390 feet to left, scoring Luisangel Acuna and Tristan Peters to stretch the White Sox advantage to 7-3. MLB shared the moment on X, formerly Twitter, as Chicago moved closer to a series-clinching win for the first time in 21 years.

The blast marked Meidroth’s first career postseason home run and continued a strong Wild Card showing. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Chicago’s 6-3 Game 1 victory Tuesday before delivering the biggest swing of Game 2.

Meidroth entered the postseason after batting .276 with a .350 on-base percentage, a .415 slugging percentage, 16 home runs and 63 RBIs during the regular season. The 25-year-old became the White Sox’s everyday second baseman after arriving from the Boston Red Sox in the December 2024 Garrett Crochet trade.

The home run gave the White Sox breathing room after the Astros had cut a four-run first-inning deficit to one. Chicago entered Wednesday leading the best-of-three AL Wild Card Series 1-0 and needing just one more victory to advance.

A win would send the White Sox to the AL Division Series to face the Cleveland Guardians. As the game heads into the eighth inning, Meidroth’s three-run shot still has Chicago holding a 7-3 lead and six outs from advancing.
