Texas football: Colin Simmons solely claims Longhorns' sacks record after stat correction
· Yahoo Sports
Colin Simmons now stands alone in the Texas football program's record books.
On Monday, Texas and Tennessee agreed to correct Simmons' stats from this past Saturday's game in Knoxville. Simmons was credited with an additional 1/2 sack, and the junior edge rusher can now claim 5 ½ sacks against the Volunteers. That is now a standalone record at Texas, breaking a tie with Shane Dronett's five-sack performance at Texas Tech in 1990.

The sack in question was a fourth-quarter takedown of Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon. Hero Kanu was originally credited with the full sack. But after a review, it was ruled that Simmons deserved partial credit since he made the initial contact on Brandon and wrapped up the quarterback's legs while Kanu finished the job.
Simmons now finishes the Tennessee game with nine tackles and the school-record 5.5 sacks. He also forced a fumble and recorded an additional quarterback hurry in the Longhorns' 20-17 win.
