Presidents Cup 2026: 10 Winners and Losers, Including Team USA Rallying to Win

For the first time on American soil at the Presidents Cup, the United States trailed going into Sunday Singles.

However, a three-point deficit was not insurmountable for the Americans to make a big comeback. Team USA went on to win the Singles session 9.5-2.5 across the 12 singles matches to defeat the International Team 17-13.

Winner: Jacob Bridgeman

It is always special to record the clinching point for the trophy, no matter the match play event. On Sunday, it was U.S. rookie Jacob Bridgeman. Bridgeman gave the Americans the chance to hoist the trophy with his par on the 18th hole to win the match 1 up over Min Woo Lee. He won the 16th hole to tie the match before sealing it on the last. It marked Bridgeman’s lone point of the week and made it count. With the win, the U.S. records its 11th straight Presidents Cup trophy.

Loser: International Team Singles

The International Team had a chance to pull off a major upset on the road. Led by captain Geoff Ogilvy, the team needed to secure five points to win the cup. On Saturday night, while the pairings were unveiled, the strategy was interesting. They had their top players play against some of Team USA’s depth pieces. However, only netting 2.5 points in 12 matches easily hurt the International Team and their chance to win the Presidents Cup for the first time since 1998.

Winner: Strokes Gained Putting

Anytime in match play, making putts can change the complexion and momentum during a match. That proved to be the difference across all five sessions. In Friday’s foursomes, the International Team gained six strokes on the green to sweep that session. In singles on Sunday, the U.S. gained more than five strokes. Furthermore, four of the five leaders in strokes gained putting on Sunday were Americans. That includes Patrick Cantlay making a 57-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole to regain a 2-up lead over Adam Scott.

This is the International team pairing that they can rely on for the future. Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim won their first three matches, including taking down Patrick Cantlay twice. Whether it is foursomes or four-ball, this pairing made putts, which was crucial to winning. These two were a dominating force before falling Saturday afternoon to Cantlay and Schauffele. Tom Kim also earned a tournament-high four points to help captain Geoff Ogilvy.

Winners: Jackson Koivun and Chris Gotterup

All three rookies for Team USA, Bridgeman, Jackson Koivun and Chris Gotterup, all earned pivotal wins in singles. Koivun, who helped Auburn win a national championship a couple of months ago, was paired with Alabama alum Justin Thomas. Koivun and Thomas recorded a win and a tie in foursomes. On Sunday, the 21-year-old was down one after 11 holes before winning five of the final eight holes, including flipping the match to 2 up through 15. He then wrapped up his match with a birdie on the 18th to defeat Si Woo Kim.

Gotterup’s success, especially on Saturday, went a long way to helping the Americans hoist the trophy. On a day across both sessions when the U.S. was trying to make putts, he was nailing them. That includes one from off the green to cap off the Saturday afternoon session. As a result, Gotterup wrapped up his first Presidents Cup by taking an early 3-up lead on Christiaan Bezuidenhout after six holes. That came before he went on to win by 1.

Winner: Cameron Young

Cameron Young, who had a strong Ryder Cup last year, continued his success one year later. He helped the U.S. claim a co-team high of three points, including his Sunday singles victory over Ryo Hisatsune. It is the second straight year Young went out first for the Americans in singles after doing so last year at the Ryder Cup. Young also got two points Saturday in both sessions alongside Gotterup. The U.S. pair both had 1.4 strokes gained putting Saturday morning. In the afternoon, Young gained 2.2 strokes while Gotterup gained 1.86 for a 6 and 4 win, the shortest match of the week.

Loser: Entire U.S. Team at Foursomes

The U.S. continues its stretch of not winning a single point on Friday. As a result, it marked the second straight time the Americans were swept on Friday in Foursomes. The U.S. team has not won at least 0.5 points on a Friday at the Presidents Cup since 2022 and will extend that drought to 2028. Overall, in Friday’s session, the Americans lost 6.36 strokes gained putting. They could not make a putt, which goes a long way, not only to the score, but also to momentum. The U.S. went 2-7 across the nine foursomes matches between Friday and Saturday.

Losers: Nico Echavarria and Russell Henley

Nico Echavarria and Russell Henley were the only players representing their respective teams to not win a match. Echavarria went 0-2 while Henley went 0-2-1, garnering 0.5 points. Echavarria lost to Koivun and Thomas on Thursday in Fourballs in his first Presidents Cup.

On the flip side, Henley, who played in his second Cup, did not have the same showing as he did two years ago when he went 3-1. Two years ago then, he was paired with Scheffler in all three matches at Royal Montreal. This time around, he was paired with Bridgeman before tying with Nick Taylor.

Loser: U.S. Captain Brandt Snedeker

Before Sunday singles, the vibes in the U.S. room were puzzling when it came to the golf. Snedeker was “second-guessing” himself at times while Team USA could not finish matches. On Saturday afternoon at one point, all four matches were in favor of the Americans before two were flipped to the International team. Another question Saturday was sitting Scottie Scheffler for the afternoon session. Not playing the World No. 1 in the afternoon could have played a big part in potentially having a shorter deficit going into singles.

Scottie Scheffler

Although Scheffler did not play in the Saturday Foursomes session, the World No. 1 delivered with his three points. Before sitting Saturday afternoon, Scheffler made his first long putt of the morning session with a 21-footer. That marked the first of three straight holes won to close the match alongside Sam Burns 2 and 1. Overall, Scheffler went 3-1 and the second time he has posted three points at the Presidents Cup. Scheffler took a 4-up lead on Nico Echavarria through 10 holes, leading to a 2-and-1 win.
