‘Dippity Do-Nut’ by Emily’s Sassy Lime
Emily’s Sassy Lime is an essential yet short-lived band of the early riot grrrl and DIY punk scenes. But you wouldn’t know it by looking at their small discography. However, Emily’s Sassy Lime embodied the true DIY ethos of punk not just in their spontaneously lo-fi recordings, but in their entire approach to playing live. They often had to borrow instruments from other bands, making every show a different experience out of necessity, not aesthetic.
The trio, which formed in high school, released one album in 1995. They released the EP Dippity Do-nut in 1996, featuring the tracks “Bait and Switch”, “Sneaking Into Yer House”, and “Dippity Do-nut”. This three-song EP is delightfully jangly, unpolished, and totally raw, a hallmark of Emily’s Sassy Lime.
