Oak Ridge honors three legends at homecoming game

Three local athletes will be inducted into the Oak Ridge Sports Hall of Fame during halftime of the Oak Ridge-Bradley Central football game, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, on Blankenship Field. This is Oak Ridge High School Homecoming game.
The three athletes are Erin McGinnis, a 1997 ORHS graduate; Darryl Miller, a 1989 grad; and Mike Underwood, a 1992 grad.

A reception and introductions of the new inductees will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at the ORHS lobby of the arena, according to the Hall of Fame website.This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Hall of Fame.
McGinnis' long list of athletic accomplishments include being on the Lady Wildcats basketball team that won the 1997 TSSAA Class AAA State Championship nd being named Tennessee Miss Basketball (Class AAA) during her junior and senior year. She was also a volleyball standout, she earned the Volleyball All-State District Tournament MVP and Regional Tournament MVP. As an adult, she coached the Robertsville Middle School team that was the 2021 TMSAA Girls Basketball State Champions.
Miller's long list of accomplishments include getting a basketball scholarship to play at Western Kentucky University. He is Oak Ridge's only "Mr. Basketball" winner, a award presented by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). Oak Ridge City Council approved a proclamation making April 10, 1989 Darryl Miller Day in the city.
Underwood holds the record for touchdown passes in a single season with 25. He is also No. 6 in the Oak Ridge High record books with 1, 812 yards passed during a single season and 2,789 yards passed during his career. He also played football at Robertsville Junior High School on a team that was undefeated two years.
Underwood received a football scholarship from Middle Tennessee State University. He suffered a career-ending neck injury during spring training.
