The New York Jets signed Connecticut native Will Levis to the team's practice squad Tuesday afternoon, returning the 27-year-old quarterback to the Tri-State Area.
Levis will replace Bailey Zappe, who was released by the Jets Tuesday. New York currently has two quarterbacks on the team's active roster: veteran Geno Smith, who has started both games under center for the Jets, and fourth-round 2026 draft pick Cade Klubnik.

The former Xavier High star was selected No. 33 overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2023 NFL Draft, but his run in Nashville recently ended after three years when the organization waived him in late August. Levis made preseason headlines this summer by asserting himself as one of the 32 best quarterbacks in the NFL, but he was ultimately beaten out by Mitch Trubisky for the backup position in Tennessee.
Born in Massachusetts, Levis grew up in Madison and blossomed into a star at Xavier, setting single-season school records for passing yards (2,793) and touchdowns (27) as a senior for the Falcons. Recruiting services graded Levis as a consensus top-30 quarterback prospect, who committed to Penn State and attempted 102 passes across three seasons in Happy Valley.
Levis transferred to Kentucky ahead of the 2021 campaign and was immediately awarded the starting job by Mark Stoops, enjoying success across two seasons for the Wildcats with 5,233 yards and 43 touchdowns against 23 interceptions. The young quarterback's coveted physical skill set elevated Levis into a fast-rising and controversial NFL Draft prospect, projected by some as the No. 1 overall pick leading up to the 2023 draft, but he ultimately fell into the second day.
He started 21 games across two seasons for the Titans, struggling to turn around a floundering Tennessee franchise as he threw 16 interceptions and posted a 5-16 record. The Titans selected Miami QB Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in last year's draft, effectively ending Levis' run as the franchise quarterback, and he missed the entire 2025 season to undergo surgery on his throwing shoulder.
