Pensioners can visit Cape Town’s top attractions for R17: Here’s how

But Cape Town can get pricey.
Although many of the city’s attractions offer senior discounts, it’s still hard to justify the expense.
Cape Town’s pensioners can benefit from the My Green Card offered by the Table Mountain National Parks.
Entry into Cape Town attractions for R17
The card costs R212 once-off and gives cardholders entry to six of the city’s attractions.
The card gives its holders 12 “free” entries into select parks; these include:
- Cape of Good Hope / Cape Point
- Boulders Penguin Colony
- Oudekraal
- Silvermine
- Tokai Picnic Area
- Newlands Forest Picnic Area
To get the card, pensioners must visit the Tokai Plantation Office.
The office is open on weekdays between 08:00 and 15:45, but closes for lunch between 12:30 and 13:00.
To apply for the Green Card, pensioners must bring their Identity Document, an ID-sized photograph, and proof of address not older than 3 months.
The proof of address must include the applicant’s name and show a Cape Town address, as the Green Card is limited to Cape Town residents.
The Tokai office is cash-free; therefore, applicants must pay by card.
Is the R212 Fee Worthwhile?
Cardholders get entry for R17.67, rather than the typical R44.
Cape Point and Boulders are the exception.
South African visitors pay R110 to enter Cape Point. At Boulders, they pay R50.
In these instances, the typical 60% savings jump to 84%.
Pensioners can also share the benefits with friends and family. Cardholders can use the card to get entry for up to 5 additional visitors.
The visitors don’t have to be Cape Town residents, but they must have a South African ID to benefit from the entry.
This allows pensioners to enjoy the parks with local friends and family.

The card is active for 12 months from the purchase date.
However, every time a cardholder uses an entry, the card is clipped.
Once a cardholder uses their 12 entries, they must wait for the card to expire before applying for a new one.
However, any resident over 18 from the same household can have a Green Card.
