Windber stuns Meyersdale in Inter-County Conference football shootout

WINDBER — Sophomore running back Ike Serenko scored his third rushing touchdown of the night from 3 yards out with 1:37 to go, Friday, Sept. 18, as Windber knocked off previously unbeaten Meyersdale 33-30.
The Ramblers (3-1) struck on their opening drive. Windber moved the ball 68 yards on five passing plays. Sophomore quarterback Tyler Tallyen found Trey Tallion on a quick hitter. Tallion did the rest, eluding would-be tacklers for a 32-yard touchdown. Jonas Krause added the extra point for a 7-0 advantage just 55 seconds into the game.

Meyersdale (3-1) answered. The Red Raiders methodically marched 80 yards on 11 plays, capped by a Spencer Whitfield 8-yard touchdown run. Keegan Fisher tacked on the PAT to even things with 5:49 to go in the quarter.
Windber regained the lead on a drive that carried over into the second quarter. With a short field to work with, Serkeno finished a 3-play drive when he busted through a hole for a 9-yard TD run. The extra point was no good. The Ramblers led 13-7 with 11:20 remaining in the half.
Meyersdale appeared if it was going to respond just before the half. The Red Raiders drove 75 yards down to the Ramblers 5-yard line, but a penalty and a negative play led to fourth-and-goal. Meyersdale was unable to covert and trailed 13-7 at the break.
Not only were the Red Raiders down on the scoreboard, they were also without the services of senior running back and linebacker Cooper Porter as well as lineman Chris DiPasquale, who both sustained injuries and did not return.
To make things worse, Whitfield went down with a knee injury on Meyersdale's opening series of the second half.
Fisher booted a 25-yard field goal to pull the Red Raiders within 13-10.
Windber had an answer. Dylan Woodruff picked off backup quarterback Ryder Reese, which led to a Serenko 41-yard TD scamper and a 19-10 advantage. Serenko notched 100 rushing yards.
Whitfield returned to action and dialed up a long ball to Gavan Steinberg for a 59-yard score with 3:47 left in the third.
Windber finished the third-quarter scoring, when Tallyen hit Woodruff for a 27-yard touchdown on third-and-26.
Caleb Sines, who played a dandy of a game, ripped the ball out of Tallyen's hands and raced 72 yards for a touchdown.
After Meyersdale Stylz Friend blocked a Windber punt, Sines muscled through the defense for a 22-yard touchdown. Sines finished with 186 yards on the ground.
Meyersdale led for the first time all game 30-26 with 5:16 to go.
However, it was Windber who laughed last with an impressive 11-play, 63-yard drive to help seal the deal.
