Prep Roundup: Falkville gets past Tanner in low-scoring contest

Sep. 19—FALKVILLE — Landon Jones scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and converted the 2-point attempt, as Falkville defeated Tanner 8-7 on Friday in a decisive Class 2A, Region 7 matchup.

Trailing 7-0, Jones gave the Blue Devils a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the opening quarter and the Falkville defense came up with four turnovers to ensure the victory.
Falkville intercepted three passes and recovered a Tanner fumble, holding on for the win despite being outgained 208-153 in total offensive yards.
Quarterback Reed Dillard completed 12 of 16 passes for 88 yards for the Blue Devils. Kai Lawrimore rushed a team-high 10 times for 21 yards, heading a rushing attack that saw five players finish with multiple carries.
King Tyree had a game-high 80 yards rushing on 14 carries for Tanner, while Kaden Freeman added 24 yards on five carries.
Falkville (3-2, 2-1) is off next week before traveling to JB Pennington. Tanner (3-2, 1-2) is off before hosting Sheffield.

West Morgan 49, Lawrence County 14: Jordan Taylor and Jabari Wiggins rushed for two touchdowns each as West Morgan rolled past Lawrence County in a Class 4A, Region 7 win on Friday.
Taylor scored on runs of 51 and 1 yards for the Rebels, finishing with a team-high 92 rushing yards on five carries. Wiggins ran 10 times for 84 yards, scoring on runs of 18 and 9 yards.
Wiggins also caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brantley Phillips, who added a 25-yard scoring pass to Colby Jones. Shun Harris had a 46-yard touchdown run.
West Morgan (3-2, 3-0) is off next week before hosting Deshler. Lawrence County (1-4, 0-3) continues region play next week at Wilson.

East Lawrence 35, Haleyville 13: Kavian Smith tossed two touchdown passes, and ran for a third score, as East Lawrence remained unbeaten in Class 3A, Region 5 play with a win on Friday.
The victory, East Lawrence's first over Haleyville since 2002, improved the Eagles to 4-1 heading into a bye week and sets up a pivotal region game against Hatton on October 2.
Smith connected with Bryce Young (28 yards) and Trey Trussell (13 yards) as the Eagles built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Haleyville rallied to cut the lead to 14-13 midway through the third quarter before Young blocked a field goal that was returned 93 yards for a touchdown that put the game out of reach.
Smith scored on an 11-yard run to push the lead to 28-13 with 8:40 to play and Chantler Bolding closed out the scoring with a 2-yard run with less than three minutes to go.

Hatton 48, Oakman 7: Savarius Evans rushed 15 times for 231 yards and four touchdowns as Hatton picked up a big Class 3A, Region 5 win over Friday to remain unbeaten on the season.
Cade Parham completed 12 of 25 passes for 183 yards for the Hornets, tossing a touchdown to Quenderius Bolding. Bolding finished with four catches for 80 yards, one receiving touchdown and a 24-yard touchdown run.
Taegan Burleson added a rushing touchdown for the Hornets (5-0, 3-0), who are off next week before traveling to East Lawrence.

Ardmore 15, West Point 10: Javean Riddle found the end zone on a pair of rushing touchdowns as Ardmore defeated West Point on Friday to snap a three-game losing streak.
JC Pereyda hit a 35-yard field goal for the Tigers, who improved to 1-2 in Class 4A, Region 7 play with the win.
Ardmore (2-3) is off next week before jumping back into region play at home against Lawrence County.

Austin sweeps Decatur: Amari Woods had 14 kills and nine digs as Austin won the volleyball version of the River City Rivalry 3-0 on Thursday.
Maggie Jae Marsh had 18 assists, 13 digs, five kills and four aces for the Black Bears, while Addison Garth added nine kills.

West Morgan sweeps tri-match: The Rebels improved to 23-5 on the season with a pair of wins on Thursday, defeating East Lawrence (2-0) and Pope John Paul II (2-0).
Haniyah Standridge led West Morgan with 37 kills, while Raygen Muse added 15 kills and five blocks. Lila Mae Whitt finished with 53 assists.

Danville splits tri-match: Danville split a tri-match on Thursday, defeating Lee-Huntsville (2-0) and falling to Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering.
Against Lee-Huntsville, Sophia Reiber and Kennedy Borden had six kills each. Maci Brannon and Bella Berryman had five kills each, while Katie Beth Hill finished with 19 assists and four digs.
Brannon led the Hawks with eight kills and six digs against ASCTE, while Reiber and Borden added four kills each. Hill had 15 assists, six digs and four kills.

McReath led Hartselle with 27 kills and 36 digs, while Alli Lindsey added 13 kills, five digs and four blocks. Gillott had 45 digs, 23 kills and 12 aces and Baylie Singleton finished with 24 digs and six aces.

Austin 27, Hueytown 7: Autumn Cassidy accounted for three total touchdowns, two passing and one rushing, to lead Austin on Thursday.
Cassidy completed 11 of 18 passes for 161 yards, throwing touchdowns to Jada Billings (30 yards) and Brooklyn Burks (60 yards). Zyriah Sessions had a rushing touchdown for the Black Bears, while Neveah Forster and Kailan Steele had one interception each.
