NHL star Brent Burns has new look & it’s shocking the hockey world
· Yahoo Sports
NHL fans barely recognized Colorado Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns when he showed up to the team’s first media availability sporting a surprising new look.
Gone was the iconic beard and gap-toothed grin that have defined his image for over a decade, replaced by fresh-cut facial hair and brand new front teeth.

A beard fit for a Chia Pet, gone

The look became so recognizable that it even inspired a Chia Pet giveaway in 2016 during his time with the San Jose Sharks. So the transformation caught plenty of people off guard, including those closest to him.
“He looks like some rookie I don’t recognize,” joked Burns’ agent, Ron Salcer, capturing just how jarring the new appearance was for longtime fans and colleagues.

Chasing history in his 23rd season

The 41-year-old is entering his 23rd NHL season and has played more than 1,000 consecutive games, putting him just 57 games away from breaking Phil Kessel’s all-time record of 1,064 straight appearances.
On the ice, Burns remains a steady contributor. The 2017 Norris Trophy winner posted 12 goals and 35 points across 82 games last season with the Avalanche. For his career, he has racked up 273 goals, 945 points, and 887 penalty minutes — an impressive résumé that is still missing one accomplishment: a Stanley Cup.
Burns and the Avalanche will look to change that narrative when their 2026-27 season kicks off on Sept. 30, as Colorado hosts the Los Angeles Kings to open the campaign. Whether the new clean-cut look sticks around past opening night remains to be seen, but for now, it’s the talk of training camp.
