BREAKING: Todd Boehly and other minority owners sell stake in Chelsea to Clearlake

Todd Boehly and his fellow minority owners have sold their Chelsea shares to Clearlake Capital, who now have 100% control.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has sold his stake in Chelsea, handing Clearlake Capital full control of the club.
Boehly, along with fellow minority owners Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss, have sold off their 12.8% shares to allow Clearlake (headed by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano) to take full control.
The price is not clear – one can only assume they would want to sell for a profit, however.

“It has been an honour to serve as Chairman of Chelsea Football Club. I would like to thank the many who helped secure a bright future for the Club, including the English Premier League, the coaches and players, the talented leadership and staff at Chelsea, and the legions of dedicated fans,” a statement from Boehly said.
“I have valued my partnership with Clearlake and the wider ownership group, and the collective decisions and investment we have made to support the immediate and long-term success of the Club. I am confident that Chelsea is well positioned for continued success under Clearlake’s leadership.”
None of this will do much to dispel the rumours that there was a serious rift between Boehly and Clearlake head Behdad Eghbali, which surfaced in 2024. Fans can hope that a unified ownership will be able to perform better than what we’ve seen in the last 4 and a half years.
