Tigers see six-game winning streak snapped in loss to Blue Jays

The Detroit Tigers' six-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Rogers Centre, as they endured a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
The loss snaps the longest winning streak in the American League and sets the Tigers back even further in their wild-card hopes, as they aren't mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with their 72-80 record.

Riley Greene gave the Tigers their only run of this game off an RBI single in the first inning, where they had two hits to start the game.

However, the Tigers only got five more hits the rest of the game, while the Blue Jays drew their five runs from nine hits. Tigers starter Keider Montero only lasted four innings, giving up two runs and six hits in the loss.
Meanwhile, former Tiger Max Scherzer started for the Blue Jays, pitching five innings and giving up just three hits and one run in just his third win of the season.
Things melted down for the Tigers in the sixth inning, where three errors were committed by the Tigers infield, two of them from shortstop John Peck. The Blue Jays took advantage and scored two runs off those errors, extending their lead to 5-1 and never looking back
Detroit attempted a ninth-inning rally as they had runners on first and second base with no outs, but Blue Jays closer Louis Varland got a bit of revenge for his part in the Tigers victory on Monday and got three straight outs to leave those runners stranded.
Now there's 10 games left in the season, and the Tigers now travel to the south side of Chicago to face the White Sox for four games, another team looking to keep pace in the AL playoff picture.
