Falcons may lose DL Da’Shawn Hand for the season
· Yahoo Sports
The Atlanta Falcons have lost Jalon Walker for the season, seen James Pearce Jr. suspended for eight games, started their third-string quarterback, and lost a road game featuring awful turnovers, tons of penalties, and missed field goals. We are only one week into the season and struggling to keep the vibes positive, and today’s news is not going to help.
Defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, who only played seven snaps in Week 1 before exiting with a knee injury, may miss the rest of the 2026 season with a torn quad. Hand was expected be a key piece of this run defense up front, and his loss would be a major blow to a promising defensive line.

Hand was one of the bigger (pun intended) signings of the offseason, and was added with an eye on improving an often shaky 2025 run defense. While the Falcons did a nice job in Week 1 with Brandon Dorlus, LaCale London, Gervon Dexter, and Maason Smith all playing well, that’s a four man rotation and none of them have the track record against the run that Hand does. Atlanta will almost certainly add either Zach Harrison or Zacch Pickens to the active roster and may scour free agency for more additions, simply because any attrition at all will leave this team perilously thin up front.
We’ll have to hope for some miraculous good news, but given the way the season has gone already, I’m not expecting it. Devastated for Da’Shawn Hand.
