The Arizona Cardinals got the job done in their first game under new head coach Mike LaFleur. On Sunday, the Cards pulled off a win on the road against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers, 26-14.

Arizona entered the game (and the season, for that matter) with plenty of questions, especially since this is just the first year of LaFleur as a head coach in the league.

There remains a lot to be answered for Arizona, but the team surely showed promise and erased some doubts when they stunned the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

With the Cards’ success in Week 1, LaFleur also became just the first Cardinals head coach to emerge on the winning side in his debut for the franchise in over five decades. The last time to do it was Don Coryell in 1973.

While the win over Los Angeles was worth celebrating, LaFleur knows it was just a start and that his team has to focus on what’s ahead immediately.

“They’re the Super Bowl champs for a reason,” LaFleur said about playing the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 at  State Farm Stadium in Glendale (h/t Craig Grialou of the team’s official website). “We’ll have our hands full.”

The Cardinals went winless in two games against Seattle in the 2025 season. They dropped the first meeting in Week 4 at home, 23-20, and the next one at Lumen Field in Week 10, 44-22. The second matchup is also remembered for Seattle linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence’s two defensive touchdowns.

Jacoby Brissett passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 22/44 completions in that game.
