Jared Curtis saw the majority of the action at FirstBank Stadium, and unlike in the opener against Austin Peay, where Blaze Berlowitz led all of the offense's scoring drives, this time it was Curtis who led all the scoring.
Berlowitz struggled enough that he was booed shortly before the half after going three-and-out. The Commodores subsequently had a punt blocked, leading to a Blue Hens touchdown.
Vanderbilt (2-0) got the win, but the game led to questions about how much longer it can keep playing two quarterbacks.
Here are the stats and grades for each:
Jared Curtis stats vs Delaware
Curtis was 14-for-22 for 210 yards passing and one touchdown and gained 24 yards on five carries, not including his three sacks for 23 yards or the kneeldowns to end the game. He scored two rushing touchdowns.
Curtis committed one fumble, but he recovered it himself. He did not have any turnovers.
Jared Curtis performance grade vs Delaware
Curtis' first drive was a bit shaky as Vanderbilt had some procedural penalties and Curtis himself fumbled a snap, but the drive ultimately ended in a rushing touchdown.
Curtis cleaned up his communication and operation later in the game. He threw one touchdown pass and scored two rushing touchdowns while making several impressive throws downfield. Curtis completed three passes for 30 or more yards.
Curtis was sacked three times and committed an intentional grounding penalty, something that will need to be cleaned up going forward. He did not commit any turnovers.
Grade: B+
Blaze Berlowitz stats vs Delaware
Berlowitz was 3-for-9 passing for 29 yards. He had no touchdowns and no interceptions, but he did have a fumble on a run play. He ran twice for six yards.
He did not take any sacks.
Blaze Berlowitz performance grade vs Delaware
Berlowitz performed poorly on the day. He missed several throws that he should have made, and he wasn't involved in the run game to the same extent he was against Austin Peay. Berlowitz didn't look comfortable throwing the ball, and when he finally got a few completions late in the second quarter, he attempted to hurdle a defender and fumbled. It was an exceptionally poor decision from Berlowitz, who needs to avoid turnovers if he wants to win the job.
Grade: F
