Dave Roberts Makes Special Gesture for Miguel Rojas in Potential Marlins Farewell

Los Angeles Dodgers two-time World Series champion Miguel Rojas is set to have an emotional day on Sunday, September 13th, as he plays in what may be his final game for his longtime team.

Rojas has not played this series against the Marlins since they faced two different right-handed pitchers, with Alex Freeland taking all of the looks at second base.

Despite facing yet another righty, Roberts said Rojas will start and get his moment.

“He’ll start tomorrow… For that reason. I talked to him about it; he’s excited, and I’m excited to have him in there tomorrow,” Roberts said.

This season, Rojas has only 76 plate appearances against right-handed pitching, compared to 147 plate appearances against lefties.

Dave Roberts has been quite mindful of rolling out Rojas against matchups that he tends to succeed in, while limiting his exposure to righties.

Against lefties, Rojas is crushing the ball with a .299/.340/.463, but against right-handers, he is hitting just .215/.257/.246.

Still, in what Rojas has said is his likely final season as a major league player, Roberts is giving him the nod to play in Miami.

Miguel Rojas’ connection to the Marlins

Rojas played for the Marlins from 2015 to 2022, totaling 870 games in Miami. He has a home in Miami, and while he is better known now as a Dodger, that was not always the case.

He was an elite defensive shortstop who played all over the infield as needed, and grew into an important voice in the locker room throughout his career.

Rojas actually started his career with the Dodgers, getting called up through their system, before he was traded to the Marlins in the trade that brought Kike Hernandez and Austin Barnes to LA.

Then, after eight years, he found his way back to the Dodgers.
