Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love has made his intentions clear ahead of the team’s regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, even though his availability remains officially undecided.

Arizona’s first-round pick has been limited in practice for two consecutive days while recovering from a left high ankle sprain suffered in Las Vegas on Aug. 13. Love has returned to practice this week after beginning his rehabilitation immediately following the injury, and the portions open to the media have shown him looking like the player who impressed throughout training camp and his preseason debut.

Love’s message Thursday was straightforward: if the Cardinals decide he is ready, he plans to play regardless of how his ankle feels.

“I expect to do whatever the coach wants me to do,” said Love when asked if he expected to play this week. “If they want to put me out there, I’m going to go out there and play, whether my ankle feels 100%, 50%, 70%; I just want to play football.

“I’m going to fight my hardest to be out there every single game, every single snap of this season. Ultimately, it comes down to the coach’s decision whether I’m cleared or not.”

That mindset creates an important situation for Arizona heading into Sunday’s matchup. Love has played only one game since November 2025, but that preseason appearance offered a glimpse of his ability. He recorded 58 rushing yards on 11 carries and added three receptions for 14 yards on 14 touches before suffering the injury on his final touch.

The Cardinals selected Love No. 3 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, making him a central part of the offense’s plans. Tyler Allgeier is listed as RB1, with Love listed as RB2 and Bam Knight as the third running back, although head coach Mike LaFleur said the designations do not determine the eventual workload.

If Arizona elevates running back Evan Hull from the practice squad Saturday, that could provide another indication of Love’s availability.
