Joao Cancelo has made no secret of his biggest ambition at Barcelona, with the Portuguese defender dreaming of lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy with the Blaugrana.
Cancelo made his first start of the season against Feyenoord on Wednesday, completing the full 90 minutes as Barcelona opened their European campaign with an important victory and a strong performance.
The summer signing was delighted to finally play a major role and believes Barça have made the right start in their pursuit of European success.
Yet, he knows the Champions League campaign is only beginning.
Cancelo sets his sights on European glory
Speaking to Barcelona’s official media (h/t MARCA), Cancelo highlighted the importance of playing at home in Europe while making his personal target clear.

“It’s always special to play at home and in this competition because I’m keen to win it with Barcelona.
“We will do everything we can to achieve that. There’s still a long way to go. We have to take it step by step, but we’re on the right track,” the player explained.
Barcelona entered the competition determined to make a statement after the disappointment of last season, and Cancelo believes the team delivered exactly what was required against Feyenoord.
“We had to get off on the right foot. Last year we were left with a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths in this competition.
“It was important to win; we did so and, what’s more, we put in a great performance,” explained Cancelo.

Before Wednesday, the Portuguese had not started a single game, while his involvement across the opening La Liga matchdays amounted to barely 30 minutes.
That made his Champions League start particularly significant, as Cancelo played the entire match, giving him an opportunity to establish himself more firmly within the squad.
Meanwhile, Cancelo also offered a strong endorsement of Lamine Yamal when asked about the Ballon d’Or race.
“The only player who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or is Lamine Yamal,” he stated
Yamal’s performances have made him one of the most prominent young players in world football, while Cancelo clearly believes his level warrants the sport’s biggest individual honour.
