The San Francisco 49ers edged NFC West rivals Los Angeles Rams in Australia on Thursday, 27-7, but not without absorbing blows on the injury front.

For one, San Francisco rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling left the game in the first half with an apparent non-contact lower-body injury. He was later ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
But before the Niners fly out of Australia, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan shared an encouraging update on Stribling’s injury status.

“49ers WR De’Zhaun Stribling had an injured ankle, per HC Kyle Shanahan, who added the rookie’s Achilles was intact,” NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN shared on social media via X (formerly Twitter) following the Rams game.
Stribling also did not make a single catch in his NFL debut, but that’s the least of his worries. The focus now is on his health, with the hope that he avoids a long absence and returns as soon as Week 2, when the 49ers make their season home debut at Levi’s Stadium against the Miami Dolphins.
The 23-year-old Stribling generated plenty of hype and turned lots of heads with a strong showing in training camp. He entered the league as a second-round pick by the 49ers in the 2026 NFL Draft after he played his final season in college with the Ole Miss Rebels in 2025.
Aside from Stribling, the Niners also saw tight end Jake Tonges leave the matchup against Los Angeles with an injury, also in the first half.
In any case, the 49ers will relish their 1-0 record as they fly back home and prepare for the next one.
