Topuria (17-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC), a former two-division UFC champion, lost his UFC lightweight title in a big upset to Justin Gaethje this past June. The two headlined the highly talked-about UFC Freedom 250 card that took place on the South Lawn of the White House on President Donald Trump's 80th birthday.
Topuria was a big favorite entering the card. He, along with the majority of the public, consistently dismissed Gaethje's chances. He declared himself the winner before the match, updating his social media record to "18-0" and having a celebration dinner the night before the fight. Yet, Gaethje was able to survive Topuria's early storm and came back to win the fight in a Rocky-like fashion.
In an emotional video posted on his Instagram account, Topuria, who's Spanish-Georgian, wrote a letter to his son Hugo, reflecting on his career setback.
