Folarin Balogun made headlines during the 2026 FIFA World Cup when US President Donald Trump played a role in overturning his red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Fast forward to now, and Balogun once again finds himself in the middle of controversy as the AS Monaco forward was linked to a blockbuster move to Everton.

The transfer was nearly complete before talks broke down over Balogun failing his medical with the English Premier League club.
Soccer fans on X used this opportunity to take shots at Trump, who previously overturned Balogun’s controversial red card during the World Cup.
“Folarin Balogun let Trump get to his head,” a fan wrote. While another added, “Balogun can still call Trump, and you know what happened the last time he called him.”
“Should’ve called Trump for the Balogun transfer. He gets things done,” a third fan mocked Everton.
“Not even Trump could save Balogun and his fitness,” a fourth fan stated. A fifth fan joked, “Hearing that Donald Trump has phoned up Everton’s medical team to tell them Folarin Balogun is perfectly healthy!”
Officially, Balogun’s move to Everton has failed as the forward will continue playing for AS Monaco, at least, until the January transfer window.
As for jokes about Trump, it’s unlikely that the US President can intervene this time around and convince Everton to rethink about their decision of not signing the USMNT star.
