Lance Leipold details decision to name Isaiah Marshall as Kansas starting quarterback

LAWRENCE (KSNT) - It's officially game week for the Jayhawks.
We'll get our first look at the Kansas Jayhawks this fall as they take the field Friday night as massive favorites over FCS opponent LIU.

Amongst the storylines entering the season, all eyes, of course, were on who would be the starting quarterback.
ESPN's Pete Thamel was the first to report that Isaiah Marshall has earned the nod for the Jayhawks, after a battle with Cole Ballard last week.
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold shined some light on the decision on Monday.
"It was the intangibles, growth and maturity, command of the huddle," Leipold told 27 Sports. "He threw the ball better in fall camp than he did in the spring. His vision in the running game is truly special, and that can give us a good dynamic. When the lights go on, Isaiah is a true competitor and has a history of making things happen and we know he will for us this fall."

Leipold has said Ballard has handled it with maturity.
"He's disappointed, but he's handled this with maturity," Leipold said. "He didn't do anything wrong or do something poorly. The evaluation was what gives us the chance to be the most complete offense and that is going to be Isaiah Marshall."
