Enes Kanter Freedom Gets Hit With Brutal Fan Backlash After Latest WNBA Message
· Yahoo Sports
Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has dominated the headlines in recent weeks after stunningly declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft. Freedom is clearly challenging the WNBA’s eligibility rules when it comes to transgender athletes, and he took to X on Monday to ask the league to be part of a peace summit, with Caitlyn Jenner as the moderator.

“WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the WNBA task force, I am now speaking directly to you,” Freedom began. “I’m going to keep this short and sweet, so open your ears and listen carefully. I would like to offer you a peace summit, moderated by my friend Caitlyn Jenner. I’ve already spoken with her, and yes, she’s in.
“I’m not a troublemaker,” Freedom said. “I’m more of a peacemaker. Listen, the whole world is laughing at you. You have turned the WNBA into a laughingstock. It’s time to stop hiding behind closed-door meetings, excuses, and delays and finally give the public a clear answer. Let’s have the peace summit. No shouting. No hiding. No carefully scripted statements.
“Let’s sit across the table from each other, have an open and respectful conversation, and address the questions millions of people are asking,” Freedom continued. “Let’s put everything on the table and let the public hear both sides. If you truly believe in your position, you should have no problem defending it publicly. So, Commissioner Engelbert and the WNBA task force, the invitation is officially on the table.
“Name the time,” Freedom added. “Name the place. Let’s talk. Are you in?”

The WNBA has created a task force to review eligibility after Freedom and Royce White, another former NBA player, declared for the draft. They had held a meeting, but no resolution came out of it. So, the 34-year-old now wants to talk to commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the task force, which includes WNBA team presidents and general managers, with the transgender Jenner as moderator. Talk about a bizarre idea.
Freedom, who played 11 seasons in the NBA, tends to split opinion whenever he opens his mouth nowadays, and he got a whole lot of backlash for this latest idea.
“No one is laughing at the WNBA; we are all laughing at you for being an attention w***e,” one fan said Freedom is the laughing stock, not the WNBA.
“He is begging for attention. Sad,” one thinks Freedom is just seeking attention.
“Enes, give it up. The only people who care about your attention-seeking behavior are r****ds who still watch Fox News and think you are doing gods work. Truth is, you’re a f***ing moron playing victim,” a fan called Freedom out for playing the victim.
“Bro, always thought you were about big serious important issues; this is not that! WNBA as a private corp has the freedom to do what they freely want, if they want trans or not. Btw, you are not trans. You have lowered yourself with this cheap publicity stunt,” one fan has lost respect for Freedom.
“Who is funding you for this stunt? Who is feeding you talking points and writing your script? You’re too dumb to do all of this by yourself, so who’s putting you up to this?” a fan thinks someone else is working from the shadows.
“Stop. Harassing. Women. Doing. Their. Jobs. You aren’t a W fan. You didn’t support women in sports before this stunt. And none of this is an issue in the W. Stop. Harassing. Women,” one ripped Freedom for harassing women.
In Freedom’s and his supporters’ minds, he is “helping” women. They do not want transgender athletes to be allowed to play women’s sports. This topic has been raging on in the sports world for a while, and Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham saying she wouldn’t be in favor made it a hot talking point in the WNBA.
Now, Article XIII, Section 1(a) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement states, “Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.” The word women wasn’t defined in the document, however, which is why we find ourselves in this situation. Freedom has said that if the word “biological” is added, then he will drop everything. If it isn’t, he’ll keep at it.
