Four-star safety Ta'Shawn Poole is the top commit for the Florida State Seminoles football program in the 2027 class. However, even as he pledged to the program, the Seminoles knew that they would have to keep fighting to keep the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder, as several schools would continue to pursue.

The Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers were the schools that FSU beat out for Poole. They haven't gone away as they are both still pursuing a flip, and the Alabama Crimson Tide are also trying to snag him away from Florida State.
With that said, Poole reaffirmed after Howard High School's loss to Valdosta on Friday night that he's still locked in with FSU as he looks to see them bounce back from two straight underwhelming seasons.
"Just a winning team this year," Poole said per 247Sports. "I think we'll be good, with all the transfers this year. I think we're gonna have a good season with the coaches and everything."
Poole is the nation's No. 64 prospect and the No. 6 safety according to 247Sports composite rankings. He's also the No. 6 recruit in Georgia.
Although Howard got obliterated by Valdosta 56-6, Poole shined in the matchup. Not only did he record an interception, but he registered a sack as well. He's coming off a productive junior campaign in 2025 when he produced 37 tackles and two interceptions playing safety. In addition to that, Poole racked up 454 receiving yards as well as 200 rushing yards with 11 total touchdowns.
He won't be at Florida State's season opener on Saturday against the New Mexico State Aggies, but he does plan to spend time with the Seminoles' staff in the next few days. He'll also be on campus for visits later on in the season.
"Florida State for sure," said Poole. "We'll see about other schools right now."
Poole was decked out in an FSU skullcap and gloves on Friday night. It's paramount for them to have a successful season in 2026 to keep him committed.
