Patriots deal wideout ahead of Super Bowl rematch with Seahawks

As the NFL’s season-opener, and a Super Bowl rematch, gets closer, the New England Patriots are shipping out some talent before they play the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks.
The Patriots agreed to trade wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in exchange for safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

Boutte, 24, was a five-star recruit and the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation coming out of high school, where he committed to LSU in an attempt to join the school’s illustrious line of pass catchers. But it never quite clicked for him, with a gambling problem marking his time, and he ended up as a sixth-round pick of the Patriots in 2023.
Boutte’s time in New England appeared up after it acquired AJ Brown this offseason, as well as signed Romeo Doubs in free agency. He leaves the team having caught 78 passes for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns across three seasons. In the Super Bowl loss to the Seahawks, Boutte caught just one pass for 21 yards on five targets. Now, he’ll head to Houston with the chance to replace the injured Jayden Higgins as the team’s number two receiver, opposite Nico Collins.
The Seattle Seahawks will open the season, and unveil their latest banner, at home against the Patriots on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
