N1 closed after fatal accident in Pretoria, traffic diverted

Friday traffic is almost at a standstill on the N1 towards Polokwane after an accident on the N1 Northbound at the Proefplaas Interchange forced the N1 to close.
According to Traffic SA, the accident is fatal, but it is not clear how many vehicles were involved, nor how many people were injured or killed in the accident.

Traffic is being diverted at the N4 off-ramp, with the queue backing up towards Centurion.
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes as heavy delays are expected.
