Memphis football was unranked in the preseason AP Poll that was released on Aug. 17.
That's the same as the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. And it wasn't a surprise — no team from the Group of Six cracked the Top 25 in either poll.

Memphis received two voting points in the AP Poll, less than the nine the Tigers received in the coaches poll.
Boise State received the most votes (43, essentially No. 28) among Group of Six teams. Three American Conference teams got votes: Navy (10), Memphis (2) and Tulane (1).
Memphis kicks off its season on Aug. 29 at UNLV. The Rebels received four voting points in the poll. The Tigers also travel to face Boise State on Sept. 12.
