Newcastle United wraps up its preseason preparations on Sunday with Strasbourg visiting St James’ Park for the Magpies’ final friendly before the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Matthias Jaissle’s side enters the game following consecutive defeats to Everton and Bayer Leverkusen, with Liverpool now just one week away in Newcastle’s league opener on Aug. 23.
With the preseason almost over, the focus should be on Newcastle’s performance and any final indications of Jaissle’s plans for his starting XI. Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Leverkusen featured some encouraging spells despite the result, with Malick Thiaw scoring the Magpies’ lone goal and youngsters Mason and Lewis Miley both starting.
Jaissle now has one final opportunity to assess his squad in a match setting before the competitive schedule begins. He’ll be facing a Strasbourg side that arrives at St James’ Park after losing all six of its preseason friendlies, most recently falling 2-0 to Freiburg.
