Amakhosi brought in Renaldo Leaner, Thabo Moloisane, Adolf Mtasingwa, Faiz Abrahams and Langelihle Phili as they looked to strengthen Fernando Da Cruz’s squad.

Three of the new signings have already made their debuts, with Phili standing out in particular. After being named Man of the Match in midweek, the 21-year-old winger scored his first goal in Chiefs colours during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Phili has quickly established himself as an important member of Da Cruz’s squad. In the three matches he has featured in, the youngster has shown plenty of quality and composure, suggesting that he could play a key role for Chiefs this season.

Kaizer Chiefs looking sharp this season

While Chiefs have strengthened their squad with new arrivals, several experienced players have also departed Naturena. Gaston Sirino and George Matlou are among those who have been offloaded.

Naledi Hlongwane, Samkelo Zwane and Bontle Molefe have also been sent out on loan to newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship side Hope FC.

Zwane, the oldest of the trio, has made only sporadic appearances since breaking into the Kaizer Chiefs first team. His previous loan spell at Siwelele failed to produce the desired results, and another temporary move could represent his final opportunity to prove himself at Amakhosi.

Another experienced player whose future at Naturena remains uncertain is Thabo Cele.

The 28-year-old midfielder has yet to feature under Da Cruz and does not appear to be part of the coach’s plans. With the transfer window still open, an exit now appears increasingly likely for the former Bafana Bafana international.

Should Cele stay for another season?
