How the cascade actually works
If there’s no winner in the final PowerBall draw of the calendar month, the jackpot doesn’t roll over again.
Instead, it cascades down to the next prize division, sharing the full amount among everyone who matched a slightly lower combination.
If there’s still no winner there, it keeps moving down until somebody, or a group of somebodies, walks away with the money.
Two real examples of the cascade in action
On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, the cascade kicked in and split R139 million three ways after nobody matched all five numbers and the bonus ball.
Each of the three winners walked away with R45 733 457.30.
More recently, on 31 July, the same rule paid a single player R23 810 456.50 after they matched the five main numbers without the bonus ball.
Sizekhaya’s Chief Operating Officer, Fundi Sithebe, has pointed to mechanisms like this as central to the operator’s approach of avoiding what it calls “jackpot fatigue.”
