Karns conjures Ubuntu philosophy as the Beavers seek return to winning ways

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Karns football has won just seven games during the three-year tenure of Lee Warren as head coach. With less than half of their starters returning, you might think it’s going to be another down year, think again.

Though they may lack some varsity experience, buying into the right mentality is just as important. With the players they have returning, there’s no question that they do.

This year, the Beavers host a group that’s not okay with continuing the trend of mediocrity. A piece of making sure they don’t is upholding the team philosophy of ‘Ubuntu.’

“The short answer would be “we not me.” The longer answer would be that a person from other people, I cannot be all I can be unless you’re all that you can be, so I cannot be afraid of you because you’re good because the better you are the better I am,” said Warren. “Being in this culture now for three years now they understand what its suppose to look like so I’m hoping that we really get to see how that translates this year more than in years past.”

Jonas Zimmermann spoke to the culture of the Beavers as well, mentioning that the team’s strength will be their family-like atmosphere, while confident that this is one of the closest teams the program has seen in a long time.
