Uber driver smashes into parked cars outside popular Cape Town hotel

An Uber driver escaped injury after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into two parked cars outside the Taj Cape Town hotel in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The incident happened on Wale Street in Cape Town, when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and smashed into two cars parked outside the hotel.
First responders
According to the Cape Town Central City Improvement District (CCID), its Safety and Security team was among the first responders at the scene.
Edward Edwardes, CCID Safety & Security night manager who was on duty at the time, said public safety officers immediately assisted and alerted the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police.
The owners of the two damaged vehicles could not immediately be located and were believed to be hotel guests.
The Uber driver was not injured in the crash.
Provide assistance
The incident occurred during what the CCID described as an otherwise cold, windy and relatively quiet night in the Cape Town CBD.
The organisation also reported that its officers had responded to 16 motor vehicle accidents between 3 and 9 August, highlighting the frequency of road incidents in the central city.
The CCID said its public safety officers frequently act as first responders at accident scenes, providing assistance and contacting emergency services where necessary.
