America has been our happy home for nearly 60 years. My wife and I remain deeply grateful to this welcoming society, which has allowed us to be part of the American Dream in every way. But we have never been as concerned as we are now – for our family and for our democracy.

Our children and grandchildren are quintessentially American, yet their appearance will always set them apart. It would break our hearts if someday a stranger were to yell at them, “Go back to India!”

Our concern is not unfounded, given the dramatic increase in hostility toward Indians. It began with the H-1B visa controversy and has grown more vocal and more hostile since. Texas, with its large Hindu and Muslim populations, has become a focal point for segments of the MAGA Right who openly display bigotry and xenophobia.
