“There is nothing like it in the PLL,” head coach Brian Holman said of the home-field advantage. “… They’re rooting for us.”
Those Boston fans were treated to a thrilling game that ended in a Marcus Holman overtime two-pointer, leading the Cannons to a 14-12 victory over the Maryland Whipsnakes.
“Just a really fun way to clinch a playoff berth for us,” the veteran attackman said.

Down two with under a minute left in regulation, Mic Kelly came through with two goals to send Boston into overtime.

It was another “Whose car are we taking?” game for the Boom Squad. Graydon Hogg opened the night with two straight goals, Brian Kelly recorded a hat trick and Holman finished with five points on the night.
Andrew McMeekin continued to make an impact, going 71% at the faceoff stripe and scoring a third-quarter goal that sparked some controversy on the sideline, with Brian Holman throwing the challenge flag after seeing it as a two-pointer, which the referees disagreed with.
“He steps on the line, it’s not connected, it’s a two,” the Cannons coach said postgame. “… Those guys have a tough job; we all get a little feisty. We’re competitive people.”
But McMeekin’s ability extends far beyond winning the faceoff; it gave Boston a chance to stay alive. Down by three late in the third quarter, his feed to Brian Kelly led to an electrifying behind-the-back goal.
“[McMeekin’s] probably been the MVP of our team this year, honestly,” Marcus Holman said.

Despite the full-team involvement, the Cannons were held scoreless in the second quarter and trailed throughout the second half. But neither the team nor the home crowd gave up.
“ I don’t think there was ever a second where we thought, you know, we’re in a tough spot,” Mic Kelly said. “We knew we were gonna keep fighting until the very last whistle, and that’s what we were able to do.”
With the win, the Cannons became the second team to clinch a spot in the PLL playoffs, joining the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Waterdogs. They’ll play the second game of their Homecoming Weekend doubleheader Saturday night against the California Redwoods (8 p.m. ET; ESPN+).
