The New Orleans Saints filed a flurry of roster moves on Friday's NFL transactions wire, bringing in a couple of new faces while saying goodbye to others. Injuries are beginning to take their toll at Saints training camp. Here's what you need to know about each arrival and departure.
DT Bryan Bresee placed on injured reserve
We knew this was coming, and now it's official. Bresee will miss the 2026 season recovering from knee surgery after tearing his ACL early in training camp. He's still under contract for 2027, but that's looking more like a prove-it year for the veteran defensiive lineman than an opportunity to keep building on prior success.

DT Keeshawn Silver waived with injury designation
Silver signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of USC, but he started training camp on the PUP list and suffered a calf injury not long after getting on the practice field. He'll likely revert to injured reserve after clearing waivers. If this isn't a season-ending injury, he could receive an injury settlement from the Saints, rehab on his own, and continue his career elsewhere. $55,000 of his $3.1 million contract was guaranteed at signing and will be left behind as dead money.
EDGE Garrett Nelson claimed off waivers
Nelson, listed at 6-foot-4 and 248 pounds, returns too New Orleans after briefly joining the team's practice squad last season. He has also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, and most recently the Seattle Seahawks. He'll try to push guys on the third-string defense like Michael Heldman and Fadil Diggs. LB Deion Jones signed after free agent tryouts
Jones, 31, isn't the Pro Bowler he once was with the Atlanta Falcons but he can still carve out a role for himself in New Orleans. He just may have to play a lot of reps on special teams just like he did in the last two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After spending a year with the Carolina Panthers, he's set to become one of the few players to suit up for all four NFC South teams. WR Ja'Lynn Polk placed on reserve/retired list
This move came earlier in the week, with Polk unexpectedly announcing his decision to walk away from the game after missing two practices with what the Saints called "personal reasons." He's healthy and by all accounts was happy in his role competing for the fourth or fifth spot at wide receiver, but Polk won't be catching passes for New Orleans after choosing to hang up his cleats.
