The withdrawal was met with grave disappointment across the community, with many now urging the Spaniard to also consider skipping the US Open to let his injured wrist make a complete recovery.
Since suffering a devastating wrist injury at the Barcelona Open in April, Carlos Alcaraz has been sidelined from action for nearly four months. Despite doctors giving a positive nod to his recovery back in July, the Spaniard’s medical team has still decided to hold back on his return, suggesting that his right wrist is not yet ready to handle the elite competitive play of an ATP tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Promising 2026 Run Before Barcelona Injury
Carlos Alcaraz rode sky-high before a wrist injury, encountered later in the season, plummeted his chances. He began his promising run by capturing his first Australian Open title, which became his seventh major title overall.
The Spaniard shone brightly at the Qatar Open and subsequently became the third player to have reached the semifinals five consecutive times at Indian Wells since Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
His run went downhill once he arrived at the Miami Open, where, after two promising rounds, he got knocked out by Sebastian Korda.
The clay season followed next, where the Spaniard made another promising run in Monte Carlo, but fell to his long-time rival, Jannik Sinner, in the finals.
Up next was his last tournament of the year to date, the Barcelona Open, where he played his first and only match and, despite winning, was not able to go on further after encountering an injury to his right wrist.
The withdrawal from Barcelona led to a four-month absence from tennis altogether; however, many expect the Spaniard to make a move on or before the US Open.
